The Outcome
Food waste is rapidly being highlighted as an environmental concern with over a third of all food produced going to waste globally both in the commercial and the private sector.
The Waste Not interactive app takes into account the busyness of todays lives and the difficulty of tracking food once purchased. Aimed to keep the user in touch with their produce purchases, produce use and protentional upcoming waste the Waste Not app prompts the user to fully utilize their current foods by way of storage, use by dates, reminders, recipes and meal planners thus reducing food waste.
In this way each individual can play their part for the global environment.
Behind the scenes
When designing the brand for the Waste Not app I really focused on portraying the concept through the brad, this included considering colour, typography, values and overall design. The tone of voice amiable, approachable, and supportive. The logo is created out of a tulip like shape with a curved bottom like a leaf. The two splits connect to make a ‘w’ for Waste Not.
Waste Not is an app that is aimed at young people between 20-30 years old. Researching the person and understanding their point of view was important for the project. I conducted surveys and interviews to gather real life information about my target audience.
After refining down the user requirements it was time to wireframe. The wireframes were a really good base, the app has a lot of information so it was important to keep it clear and concise.
I used Adobe XD to go from LoFi to HiFi prototyping. I conducted a lot of user tests at this stage to ensure we had made the best experience possible. I found that the app flowed very well and the users understood how it worked quickly.
